What did you learn?
Throughout the unit, I have learned many things. First of all, I learned many different systems that many countries use. For example, EEW (Earthquake Early Warning). EEW is when seismic wave transfers and tells that an earthquake will occur in a few seconds. It helps the public to get ready for the earthquake. I also learned the evidence of the plate movement. If you look at the map from the past, the shape of the west coast Africa and the shape of continents match and fit together like a puzzle. Alfred Wagner’s theory was continental drift. The fossils in Africa and South America was the same which supports the idea of the continental drift. Same species of dinosaur was found on Africa and South America. Also the climate, places, and animal species are the same. Another evidence is the molten material and magnetic stripes of drilling samples. Molten Material is basically pillow lava. Magnetic Stripes are when the liquid in the outer core causes a shift and get oriented. It can make strong magnetism or weak magnetism. Drilling samples are when you see older or younger rocks. I also learned about the seafloor. Subduction comes our from the ridge and produces volcanoes and is in the seafloor. I also learned these words called the convection currents, plate boundaries, and converging boundaries and it is a big part of the plate tectonics.
How is this unit connected to you?
This unit is connected to me because I live in Japan. Japan recently had a 9.0 magnitude earthquake. This was a big effect to the whole world. By learning this, I can know and understand how earthquakes occur and what the country does to prevent many deaths and injuries.
How could this unit impact your life?
This unit impacted my life by being able to know and understand many things. Being able to see what we can do and avoid people and your own life to be gone or to be badly injured.
