In Science class, we have been learning about the nervous system. Also, we watched several different brain pop videos about the different parts of the nervous system. The photo below is the mind map that I have created explaining the nervous system.

This mind map represents basically everything. First of all the nervous system. Everything is around and is connected to the nervous system. Nervous system controls the center of your entire body. It is made out of your brain, spinal cord, and the huge network of nerves. The brain uses information it receives from nerves to coordinate all action and reaction. The brain contains an intricate network of nerve cells or neurons which carries the messages back and forth. Neuron is stimulated when you are touching something. It generates tiny electrical impulse which travels the full length of the neuron. When it gets to the end, it will need help to get across the gap to the next neuron. This is where chemicals called the neurotransmitters comes in. Neurotransmitters is a electrical pulse in the first cell releases chemicals that carry that impulse to the next cell. The signals travels through network of the brain. To get the nervous system going, you do not need to touch something because the nervous system is always up and running all time.
The nervous system works in 2 ways. The autonomic nervous system handles all things that seems to happen on their own like your heart beating. The somatic nervous system controls voluntary actions like talking or petting your cat. For example, when you touch something hot, it will trigger a reflex action without the help of your brain. The neurons signals the spinal cord with a “pain” message. The spinal cord reacts quickly by pulling away your fingers.
